Category: Help & How To

In part 3 of our streaming studio set up, we'll cover what you need to get up and running on streaming services like Youtube or Twitch.

Let's Hook up our Screens!

First... for those who WANT this... you can't get it... YET...
Here is the Skreens website        http://skreens.com/

Here is the Skreens Kickstarter Page
* I got the top-of-the line unit. The NexusFour Pro.
* It's not just a switcher, it (WILL EVENTUALLY) have the ability to do audio mixing + cropping
* I paid $400 for my unit, eventually it should go on retail for ~$600

We got our wonderful BMD Micro Studio -- but we need a few more inputs
* Let's show you some lower-cost options that you can pair with your switcher & Awesome Camera

Canon VIXIA R700 Camcorder    ~$200
* 57x Zoom
* 1080p
* No Frills

CrazyFire HD-SDI Camera    ~$86
* 1080p CMOS sensor
* 2.8-12mm manual zoom lens

12V Power Adapter    ~$12

SDI-HDMI Converter    ~$30

SDI vs. HDMI
* HDMI is great b/c of its ubiquity, but it has a few drawbacks:
  1. HDMI can only go 30' before it needs an amp or repeater  - SDI can go 300 meters (1000')
  2. HDMI has HDCP (High Definition Copy Protection) which can be a PITA
  3. SDI has time-code support
  4. SDI connectors can be locked (VERY IMPORTANT!)
* Bottom line: HDMI was created by consumer electronics companies who wanted to make sure everything could connect to everything. HD-SDI was created by broadcasters to be the best way to transmit HD video.

We need Audio!

Heil Sound PR40    ~$400
* This kit includes the desk stand, shock mount, and XLR Cable

Hosa XVM-105F XLR (Female) to 3.5mm (Male)    ~$8
* This will allow you to go from the PR-40 to the BMD Camera

Lighting
Fancierstudio 2400 Watt Lighting Kit    ~$120

* See Episode 212 - We explain the Three - Light Setup
1. Main Light: Slightly off-center, with not so much spread that it whites out the background
2. Hair Light: Above and slightly behind the subject (on the side opposite that of the main light)
3. Background Light: low and behind the subject
