Apple is in talks to become a mobile virtual network operator, or MVNO, according to an exclusive on Business Insider. That means Apple would act like a mobile carrier, although the actual phone and data service would be provided by other companies. You'd pay Apple for your wireless bill. And you'd switch between partner carriers based on which has the best service in the area. The MVNO would be available in the United States and Europe, according to the report. Such a service might not become available for years. In related news, Business Insider also reported in a separate story that Apple plans to unveil a voicemail service that uses Siri to transcribe messages. Siri's voice would greet your callers. Then Apple would transcribe messages into text and send you the text. The service would launch next year, according to the report.
