Brian Livingston

Brian Livingston has more than 30 years' experience as a computer manager and technology writer. He is the author or co-author of 11 books on Windows software. His latest books are Windows Vista Secrets (with Paul Thurrott) and Windows Me Secrets (with Davis Straub), published by Wiley Publishing.

His books have sold 2.5 million copies and have been translated into more than 30 languages. At one time or another, a Windows Secrets book has been the No. 1 best-selling computer book in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Brazil, Australia, and New Zealand.

From 2003 to 2010, Brian was editorial director of the Windows Secrets Newsletter, a weekly e-mail publication on the latest tricks of using Microsoft Windows. When he retired from the newsletter, it had grown to serve more than 400,000 subscribers (more info).

He was a contributing editor of InfoWorld magazine for 12 years, writing the weekly Window Manager column from 1991 to 2003 and the E-Business Secrets newsletter from 2001 to 2003. He has also been a contributing editor of CNET News.com, PC/Computing, PC World, Windows Sources, and Windows magazine.

Prior to his publishing career, he served as assistant IT manager and acting IT manager of UBS Securities (now UBS Warberg) in New York City. He also was a technology consultant for Lazard Fréres & Co. (now Lazard LLC), Morgan Guaranty Trust Co., and General Electric Consulting Services.
