This Week in Tech 582
Who's Capping Who?
Hosted by
Becky Worley
Andromeda OS, going to Mars, Twitter suitors, IoT attacks, and more.
Records live every Sunday at 5:15pm Eastern / 2:15pm Pacific / 21:15 UTC.
With Leo on vacation, Becky Worley takes the big chair. We discuss predictions about Google's big event next week, Samsung's exploding washing machines, Elon Musk's plans for getting to Mars, women in tech, who should buy Twitter, and the next wave in DDOS attacks.
- On October 4th, Google will (hopefully) announce two new Pixel-branded phones, their new Andromeda OS, the Echo-competitor Google Home, and more.
- Samsung's PR image goes from bad to worse - just as new, non-exploding versions of the Galaxy Note 7are coming out, Samsung washing machines are apparently exploding.
- Elon Musk detailed his plans to send people to Mars in the next 6 years. This may be a bit far-fetched, and Owen JJ Stone has a few suggestions of where Mr. Musk's money and energy might be better spent.
- The Wall Street Journal published an editorial advising women to hide their gender to improve their chances of getting hired for Silicon Valley firms. Our panel has a few choice words to say about that.
- Does it make sense for Disney to buy Twitter? Becky thinks so, but Jason thinks someone else would be a better fit.
- As many as a million IoT devices were part of a DDOS attack on security expert's Brian Krebs' website. Is this the future of hacking?
