G4 Acquires TWiT

OK I guess I was too subtle - this is an April Fools joke. I haven't sold TWiT to anyone, least of all G4! I have some very exciting news. G4 Entertainment Inc has agreed to acquire TWiT in an exchange for stock and $1 cash. We've been in extensive conversations for the past few months, but I've been reluctant to say anything until today. Here's an excerpt from the G4 press release which crossed the wires a few hours ago: G4 CEO , Loof Slirpa, said about the merger, "The synergy between G4's smokin' hot babes and classic TV series, and the TWiTs high end tech knowledge will allow us to reach a vast audience of teenage boys and disaffected computer programmers."

The Lab With Leo

My new TV show, The Lab with Leo Laporte debuts in April, but I'm in Vancouver right now for rehearsals. Here's a short video of the new set we shot on Wednesday. Check out the on set live cam at Kate Abraham's behind the scenes blog (she's our call screener and chyron operator) is and our Free File guy and chase Producer Ryan Yewell's blog is, and there are photos on Flickr.

KFI Radio Show Is Being Syndicated

I'm pleased to announce that Premiere Radio Networks - the biggest radio syndicator in the US - has picked up my KFI radio show for syndication. We're signing up affiliates now, so ask your local talk radio station to give Premiere a call. KFI listeners: the show will continue exactly as always. There just will be a few more people listening in.

Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays from the TWiT Family to Yours! Several of the shows will be taking time off in December. The Daily Giz Wiz will be taking two weeks off starting Christmas Day. TWiT and net@nite won't have Christmas eve shows, but we'll be back for New Year's Eve. Security Now will continue with weekly production (Steve is a tough taskmaster). Windows Weekly will be back January 4. Thanks for making 2006 a banner year for the TWiTs. I was actually able to send out some paychecks to our hosts this year. It wasn't much - but it's a start. Your support really makes a difference. We've got lots of great plans for 2007, and we're looking forward to seeing you then.

No TWiT This Week

It's been a really tough week for the TWiTs. I had planned to do a memorial show for James, but it was just too close to home for several of the guys, so we've decided to give it a pass this week. Becky Worley joined Amber and me on net@nite, however, to talk a little about James, and the search effort which she helped with. I'll post that show early so you can listen to that instead of TWiT. Thanks for understanding. See you next week.

Sad News

As most of you know by now, James Kim died trying to save his family. I know how much he loved them, and as a father myself, I know he did everything he could to ensure their survival, even if it meant risking his own life. I'm sure he'd be content knowing his loved ones made it, even though he didn't. James was a loving husband and father, a wonderful co-worker, and a young man just full of life. We'll all miss him very much. If you'd like to help the Kim family now, you'll find information at James's co-workers at C|NET have put together a tribute video.
