Dan Dennedy has been a Free/open source software developer on the Linux platform for 17 years when he first began by helping with Linux FireWire. That led into helping to develop the Kino DV video editor, eventually becoming its lead developer for many years. His work on Kino also led to his taking on maintenance for and growing dvgrab - a command line tool for video capture over FireWire. Around 2002, this open source hobby work began to reward him with contract work, and the sponsored development of the MLT multimedia framework in 2003. While initially developed for a broadcast video playout server, MLT has become the engine for non-linear video editors Kdenlive, OpenShot 1.x, Flowblade, and Shotcut, his latest project.
