Tip: Download Local Areas in Google Maps

Steve Kovach, Deputy Tech Editor at Business Insider, has a tip for traveling internationally. He likes to download the offline version of the Google Map for the city he's traveling to. That way it doesn't use up valuable data, and the GPS on the device will still help you get around. This will give you directions on public transportation and walking directions.

Just search for a place on Google Maps, then tap on the location at the bottom of the screen. Tap on the dots in the upper right corner to bring up a menu, and you'll find "Download offline area."
