Hardware Pick: Video Devices PIX-E5

Alex Lindsay's pick of the week on MacBreak Weekly 498 is the Video Devices PIX-E5. This is a portable video recorder with a full HD touch screen that can be attached to your camera. While many cameras can record video internally, the output from the camera is much higher quality. The PIX-E5 is capable of recording in 4K Apple ProRes 4444 XQ at up to 30fps and it records to a solid state drive over USB 3.0.

PIX-E5 has monitoring tools and scopes, which especially come in handy if you're doing green screen work. In addition to a touch screen that allows you to easily tap to zoom 2x and 4x, it also has real buttons for tactile control. It's made with Gorilla Glass 2 and a robust die-cast metal chassis.

The Video Devices PIX-E5 retails for $1,395.
