Since summer, Amazon has been using specialized, 320-pound robots called "Kiva" to move entire shelves of inventory around its warehouses, eliminating the need for workers to walk the aisles to select inventory for each customer. The robots are named after Amazon employees and lift up to 750 pounds, shuttling the shelves 3-4 miles per hour while using motion sensors to avoid obstacles.
