Facebook said in a blog post yesterday that requests by governments for user information rose by about 24% in the first half of 2014 over the same period last year. In the first six months of this year, governments asked Facebook for data 34,946 times. During the same period, the types of data restricted because of various local laws increased by about 19 percent, according to Facebook. The post said that Facebook is " aggressively pursuing an appeal to a higher court to invalidate these sweeping warrants and to force the government to return the data it has seized."
