Podcasts you love from people you trust. This is twit. This is twit news, special number 400 for Wednesday January 17th 2024. Galaxy Unpacked.

0:00:21 - Mikah Sargent
Folks, it is time for Samsung Galaxy unpacked 2024. I am Micah Sargent, here in the studio, and joining me from across the United States is Leo.

0:00:33 - Leo Laporte
Lapord. Hello, I'm very grateful to Samsung for not doing this in South Korea. This time they're in the West Coast, that's right, so it's at a decent hour for both of us, thank goodness for both of us.

0:00:46 - Mikah Sargent
Yeah, hello Micah, hello Leo. I mean, we, of course, are expecting to see new Samsung devices, but I think the big thing today is artificial intelligence.

0:00:55 - Leo Laporte
Yes, yeah, in fact, you've been able to preorder the S24 for some time now, so there are no surprises with the Samsung 20 S24,. I think I have an S23 Ultra and I'm looking forward to seeing what the S24 has. But yeah, samsung's already kind of telegraphed that the main thing today is going to be how they're going to integrate AI into the phone, and I'm going to guess it ain't.

0:01:20 - Mikah Sargent
Bixby. Yeah, it seems like we're going to have a new name and perhaps a new symbol, based on the sort of graphic we're watching as we're waiting for the event to kick off.

0:01:31 - Leo Laporte
Oh good, I'm glad that. So we haven't missed it. No, we have not missed it. Sometimes they go by in the blink of an eye. There you go.

0:01:39 - Mikah Sargent
Looks like it's going to work on images on notes. I'm sort of reading the tea leaves here and yeah, I don't know what the stars mean, but I think the star is it right.

0:01:50 - Leo Laporte
Can Samsung compete with the GP D4 from open AI, can they? I mean, because really that's what Microsoft's offering. Apple doesn't have anything of note.

0:02:00 - Mikah Sargent
Yeah as far as gender AI goes, it's exciting.

0:02:02 - Leo Laporte
Yeah, so this will be very interesting to see what what they're proposing and whether people want it. You know, do you really want to chat a chatty a?

0:02:10 - Mikah Sargent
chatty assistant bought in my phone. I don't know. I have other people to talk to who I also don't want to talk to, so first, we saw at a CES this new R one devices to replace in.

0:02:24 - Leo Laporte
That was some ways to replace a smartphone with an AI in their hand that can then go out to the the world and get the information that you need, things like booking an Uber and so forth. So maybe that's what I don't know. I'm very, I'm very interested in me to.

0:02:39 - Mikah Sargent
I mean, the idea is, you know you've got so many apps and you're launching all these different apps and doing things. What if you could have a super app, so to speak, that went into those different apps as needed for you and took care of the behind the scenes? But here we go, we're kicking off Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2024.

0:02:54 - Leo Laporte
Oh, this is exciting. I think they got tinkerbell in the phone.

0:02:57 - Mikah Sargent
What do you say? Not, I think I can. That's, that's, thomas, the dream I can fly.

0:03:37 - Mikah Sargent
They're, they're, they're taking off on the Peter Pan. Where's it? Past the North Star and straight on till morning, yeah that's Tinkerbell, so I don't want to grow up. Can you hear the tick? Talking of the gator?

0:03:53 - Leo Laporte
Looks like they might be at the Chase Center.

0:11:43 - Leo Laporte
Drew, you've been, you've been lifting, haven't you?

0:11:46 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Innovation is empowering. As technology advances, its impact on our lives continues to expand. Today, we'll show you all the possibilities that Galaxy AI holds, possibilities that will help you connect and create in new ways. We're so excited to share all we anticipate this technology can do for you. One of the most important and essential things we do every day is communicate with each other. It's how we express ideas and build relationships, but if we don't share the same language as someone, we can miss opportunities for connection.

0:12:27 - Mikah Sargent
Translation while traveling.

0:12:28 - Samsung Presenter / VO
AI language can be a barrier, For example by the way everybody does.

0:12:33 - Leo Laporte
You ever use the?

0:12:34 - Samsung Presenter / VO
ride share app while traveling a bra being translate Google translate Apple's own translate communicate, because you don't speak their language.

0:12:42 - Samsung Presenter / VO
And you can actually make it with the action button become complicated.

0:12:45 - Samsung Presenter / VO
We're thrilled to offer a solution by providing real time voice translation on while you're on a call.

0:12:53 - Mikah Sargent
That's kind of cool.

0:12:54 - Leo Laporte
Oh, that's cool, that's new. I haven't seen that before.

0:12:59 - Samsung Presenter / VO
When you make or receive a call in a language you don't speak. The Galaxy S 24 series can provide live translations of your call, both verbally and on screen, right away.

0:13:11 - Mikah Sargent
I wonder if you tell it you're about to make that kind of call or if it just goes. Oh, the person just said oh, I know you don't speak this man is a.

0:13:17 - Samsung Presenter / VO
traducendo y subtitular de forma simultanea I should be able to tell reservation for tomorrow at 7 pm. Hola, puedo hacer una reserva para mañana a la siete de la noche?

0:13:29 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Por supuesto para cuantas personas, of course, for how many people it's?

0:14:03 - Leo Laporte
Yeah, well, I hate to be simultaneously translated on your calls.

0:14:07 - Mikah Sargent
Yeah, that's true.

0:14:08 - Samsung Presenter / VO
The Galaxy S 24 series on real time two way call translations within the native call app.

0:14:15 - Mikah Sargent
It'll support audio and text translation 13 languages, and these are on device and it all happens right there on the device.

0:14:23 - Samsung Presenter / VO
That's cool Keeping your phone calls private.

0:14:25 - Mikah Sargent
That's yeah. Applause for that.

0:14:27 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Even remember your language and what language each contact speaks.

0:14:31 - Leo Laporte
So you do have to tell it.

0:14:32 - Samsung Presenter / VO
You don't have to make updates before you have your next conversation. Live translate works no matter what kind of phone the other person is using, even a landline. So if you happen to make a lot of international calls or enjoy exploring local hotspots while traveling, live translate makes it easy to have those conversations. These translations work in person, too. Galaxy S 24 can act as your personal interpreter whether you're lost and asking for directions or speaking to a merchant at a local marketplace. Excuse me, I'm looking for the palace. Can you tell me how to get there?

0:15:17 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Perdón, estoy buscando el palacio. Puedes decirme cómo llegar allí?

0:15:23 - Mikah Sargent
Camine unas, dos cuadras en esa dirección y gire a la izquierda.

0:15:28 - Samsung Presenter / VO
It does that upside down, walks in that direction and turn left, so the other person can actually read it. Yeah, okay.

0:15:35 - Mikah Sargent
Está bien, es muy fácil de encontrar, no, se lo perderá.

0:15:41 - Samsung Presenter / VO
It's very easy to find. You can't miss it. Thank you Miss it.

0:15:46 - Leo Laporte
Have you ever used? That's right. You've only been a few. I've never been out of the country.

0:15:51 - Mikah Sargent
Everywhere you go, they speak English. They do speak English, mostly different. Yeah, I was gonna say different flavors of English and vice versa.

0:16:00 - Leo Laporte
So you'll be able to communicate just like that Always tempted to.

0:16:03 - Samsung Presenter / VO
And then I feel like in the native app to in person conversation. It's a little weird Galaxy S 24. Yeah, relations to help you communicate in other languages seamlessly. That experience was built right into our Samsung keyboard to help you directly translate words or phrases as you type. That's nice, and now you'll have a more intuitive translation available right in the chat window here to show us how it works. Please welcome, heejin.

0:16:36 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Thanks, Drew.

0:16:40 - Mikah Sargent
Heejin Chung of Software R&D.

0:16:42 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Hi everyone. I'm so excited to show you how Chat Assist works, because I use it often. I recently posted that I was heading to San Jose for Unpacked and one of my friends from Spain messaged me to say she would also be in town. In the past we used to only message in English, but now, with Chat Assist, we can communicate in Spanish Message and wish.

0:17:11 - Leo Laporte
Is that what she?

0:17:12 - Samsung Presenter / VO
said she couldn't believe it. Let me show you how it works.

0:17:17 - Leo Laporte
I wish.

0:17:22 - Samsung Presenter / VO
See, when you use Chat Assist, it detects the language and translates the message, and when I type my message in English, it translates what I wrote into Spanish. I should confirm that she's still free for dinner tomorrow.

0:17:38 - Mikah Sargent
You see it says it's down at the bottom RCS message. Very clear oh interesting.

0:17:45 - Leo Laporte
That's good You're going to the left. It says ES for a Spaniel. So you know you're going to get translated.

0:18:00 - Mikah Sargent
I like that. It shows you your original text below yeah, yeah, yeah, that's nice.

0:18:05 - Samsung Presenter / VO
When a message came in, the translation showed up right under it. Let me reply.

0:18:15 - Mikah Sargent
So the person responded how about at 7.15? And the responding I'll see you then.

0:18:26 - Leo Laporte
That's really good. I like it. I mean, it's not anything you can't do with any phone these days. It says more convenient, I can't wait to see her?

0:18:35 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Yeah, it's built in. Chat assist is helpful because it allows us both to use language that we speak most comfortably. This is just one of the ways our latest.

0:18:46 - Mikah Sargent
Yeah, let's get to that.

0:18:47 - Leo Laporte
Put that in our message.

0:18:48 - Mikah Sargent
Put that in the Google keyboard or something.

0:18:50 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Because language barriers shouldn't keep us from staying in touch. Right Drew.

0:18:56 - Samsung Presenter / VO
That's right, Hujian.

0:18:57 - Mikah Sargent
I think this is just teaching me I need more friends. The.

0:18:59 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Galaxy has 24 series.

0:19:00 - Mikah Sargent
Can people who speak other languages with people in other languages?

0:19:04 - Samsung Presenter / VO
It can also help us communicate better in our own languages too. You can select different styles of conversations on Google Messages, so when you're writing a casual message to a friend, I don't like this Choose a chill or excited tone For work. You can choose to be more formal.

0:19:21 - Mikah Sargent
Yeah, yeah, Even as you experience it. It's not you writing A little whimsical Forsooth. It's a wondrous time, and this all happens on device, on the.

0:19:30 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Galaxy. S24 series. Thanks to Google's most efficient AI model built for on device tasks Gemini Nano. Oh, it's using Google.

0:19:38 - Leo Laporte
Gemini, nano and now with PhotoMoji on Google Messages, you can turn your photos and the stickers and reactions, opening up whole new ways to express yourself From last year, which I think is a lot.

0:19:51 - Samsung Presenter / VO
It's kind of a whole new thing To your notes chats and social media using the Samsung keyboard, so if you're writing a caption for your feed, you can apply this social tone for a more expressive.

0:20:02 - Mikah Sargent
Hashtag sunny day hashtag good vibes.

0:20:04 - Samsung Presenter / VO
We're also making it easier to communicate. It does the hashtag it does the hashtags as well, yep. Android. Auto is the best of the Galaxy experience. I hope it's deeper than I am.

0:20:13 - Mikah Sargent
Yeah, I was going to say I don't know what the hashtags will be using.

0:20:16 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Along with a safely navigate, access your favorite media and stay connected. Let's say you're driving and your friends are messaging you in a group chat. With the power of AI, you'll be able to set Android Auto to automatically summarize your group messages. Oh, that's cool, that is cool. Well, staying focused on the right.

0:20:36 - Mikah Sargent
If the group chat is popping off, it can tell you what's been said in the last 30 messages. That's pretty cool.

0:20:42 - Leo Laporte
I mean, how often do you use that? But still Android.

0:20:44 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Auto will also suggest relevant replies and actions you can take without touching your phone.

0:20:48 - Mikah Sargent
Leave the group chat.

0:20:49 - Samsung Presenter / VO
So if you're on your way to meet a friend and they send you a new location. No problem, with a single tab you'll be able to navigate to a destination you just received via text. Easily share your ETA or even send a quick reply. Android Auto keeps you connected while you're on the road. It's interesting. There was. Galaxy's intuitive 1 UI right on your car dashboard. I don't think car play and Android Auto have been a battle ground up to now, it's it easy.

0:21:19 - Leo Laporte
But clearly that's what they're saying, and they want you to use Android Auto, right? Yeah, exactly, maybe they want to be superior.

0:21:26 - Samsung Presenter / VO
But it can also help you find more product.

0:21:28 - Mikah Sargent
Finding ways to stand out. You can pair it.

0:21:31 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Yeah, as you said, they're mostly been pretty parallel.

0:21:35 - Samsung Presenter / VO
And I'm sure all of you have had that experience. When you're in a group meeting or lecture and you just want to leave someone could take those for you Having a tool that helps you recall who said what Improvise a group you can have Talking to the phone.

0:21:51 - Mikah Sargent
Don't worry, I'm still here.

0:21:53 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Including those who are hard of hearing. This is a very useful absolutely and to have it built in as opposed to needing a third party app is great. It has such a text available in different languages Now, instead of creating a basic transcript, Galaxy AI can distinguish different devices.

0:22:11 - Mikah Sargent
Distinguish speakers.

0:22:12 - Samsung Presenter / VO
That's wonderful, that's great and we'll even create a short and sweet summary of what was said.

0:22:17 - Mikah Sargent
See, we get this question a lot on Ask the Tech guys. It seems lately especially about transcription apps on our devices, so something that can differentiate between speakers and summarize that's fantastic.

0:22:28 - Samsung Presenter / VO
What does I do Can be tricky to stay organized. Sometimes my handwriting can be messy or slanted, even when I use my S-pin, but Samsung Notes can clean that up, oh wow.

0:22:40 - Mikah Sargent
That's cool. That's a good snap.

0:22:43 - Leo Laporte
And now with the OCD among us, it's so easy to organize my thoughts.

0:22:49 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Let me tell you what I mean. Samsung still puts a pen in there when I'm in the meeting or brings some music. I love that Phone, so so fun. I always have things down to put in. You know it's different. I always reorganize my notes later to make sense of it.

0:23:00 - Leo Laporte
They replace the note with essentially what the altar is now and I still like it. I use it.

0:23:06 - Samsung Presenter / VO
There are some notes from a new project. I can tidy things up by adding a bit of structure like headings and bullets to my notes, Just like that, that's cool.

0:23:24 - Mikah Sargent
OK, that's really neat. I'd love to have that on. Apple Notes this is great, yeah, yeah.

0:23:29 - Samsung Presenter / VO
See how easy that was.

0:23:31 - Leo Laporte
I did see how easy it was From different styles. It was easy, it was very easy.

0:23:37 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Oh nice, and you can change styles Depending on what you like, I can quick share these notes with my team. But wait, they don't need to read everything I wrote down, they just need the key points. Luckily, galaxy AI can help with that.

0:23:56 - Leo Laporte
Can summarize I wonder if all of this is using Gemini.

0:23:59 - Mikah Sargent
And notice that she said quick share. That's something that Google and Samsung have agreed on. That's the new thing, yeah.

0:24:06 - Leo Laporte
The new way of sharing. They're working much more closely than they used to.

0:24:10 - Samsung Presenter / VO
See how simple that was.

0:24:13 - Mikah Sargent
Somebody was very excited about that. I wasn't watching. Basically made bullet points instead of a whole heading and everything In a summary yeah, A project brainstorm, or just your travel plan.

0:24:23 - Samsung Presenter / VO
No assist has got you covered.

0:24:26 - Leo Laporte
But remember she put in the notes and used the names. By the way, it can't be that Correct. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

0:24:35 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Samsung's mobile innovation leadership is driving all new AI-powered experiences to help support and enhance your day to day. Everything you've seen so far is just a glimpse at how we see advanced intelligence on mobile devices working to help you. But our vision for mobile intelligence doesn't stop there. We're excited to be working with trusted partners to bring best in class intelligence to your phones as you've never seen before.

0:25:08 - Leo Laporte
Which partners.

I'm wondering if Google partnering with Samsung maybe heralds the end of the Pixel line and maybe Google Google's not really making. Yeah, I mean, in a way, it'd be smart. For a long time, samsung didn't even use the word Android. They really wanted to be their own thing. The fact that they're mentioning Google, they're working with Google, they're creating joint sharing capabilities, is really interesting. I think they'd only do that if Google said to them yeah, maybe the next Google Fun will be a Samsung. I mean, I'm not really not sure why Google's in the Pixel business. Right, yes, exactly, yeah, there you go, here we go. Ok, this is interesting.

0:25:57 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Now I'd like to introduce a special guest and my good friend Moio. Please join me in giving a warm welcome to Hiroshi.

0:26:09 - Leo Laporte
Oh, hiroshi Lockheimer, he runs Android over Google ITM. Yeah, this is interesting.

0:26:15 - Mikah Sargent
Can you take a look?

0:26:16 - Samsung Presenter / VO
at this. Thank you very much.

0:26:19 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Samsung is committed to open collaboration and innovation that helps deliver incredible experiences for billions of people. To enhance the entire Android ecosystem, we will open up the new era of mobile AI, together with Google, by combining our deep expertise, did he say with the Pooh?

0:26:45 - Leo Laporte
Bear. No with Google, no with the.

0:26:48 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Google yeah.

0:26:50 - Mikah Sargent
New AI experiences to identify people's lives.

0:26:52 - Samsung Presenter / VO
That would be helpful.

0:26:53 - Mikah Sargent
That's not even a joke.

0:26:54 - Samsung Presenter / VO
And today we are introducing a new way to search that takes the best of Google's innovation realized on the ground breaking Galaxy S24 series.

0:27:06 - Leo Laporte
This is a big truce. But really the number one smartphone is Apple.

0:27:13 - Samsung Presenter / VO
And globally. And number two is Samsung. Google doesn't even show up on the map.

0:27:19 - Leo Laporte
This is very interesting Thanks to you Google only you know, the last few versions of their own phones.

0:27:28 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Congratulations to the entire Samsung team. Our partnership continues to go strong as we create new ways to do more with Google on Galaxy devices. This is such a turnaround for Samsung.

0:27:38 - Leo Laporte
You saw how we're working together on Google Messages and Android Auto. For a long time it's been about Microsoft. That's just the beginning.

0:27:44 - Samsung Presenter / VO
I'm excited to announce that Google Cloud and our Gemini models are unlocking new generative AI functionality on Galaxy devices, Like the really cool Noticys and transcript assist features from Samsung you just saw. That's all Gemini.

0:27:58 - Leo Laporte
That's interesting.

0:27:59 - Samsung Presenter / VO
It's been wonderful to see our teams collaborate with this new multi-year partnership to deliver helpful AI experiences and services to Samsung users.

0:28:09 - Leo Laporte
Not Bing. There's one other really exciting thing we've been working together on. I wonder if they were bidding.

0:28:14 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Since the beginning of Android, people have turned to Google Search to feed their curiosity. Smartphones unlock the ability to access knowledge right from the palm of your hand in any place in the world.

0:28:26 - Leo Laporte
See that big old Google Search file. So we've been asking ourselves turn that up how?

0:28:30 - Samsung Presenter / VO
can AI help unlock new ways to search inside apps on your phone?

0:28:35 - Mikah Sargent
Yeah, here we go, the one app.

0:28:37 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Here's Kathy.

0:28:39 - Mikah Sargent
This is what the R1 was basically trying to do Kathy Edwards, vp of Search at Google, to be able to access multiple apps.

0:28:46 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Google Search has long been a place where you can find information to help with life's questions whether they're big or small, and through our advancements in AI, we've unlocked completely new ways to express what you're looking for, in the way that's most natural to you, and with cameras, microphones and the world's information at your fingertips.

0:29:10 - Leo Laporte
So I think, she's Austrian. She's Austrian but learned English from a.

0:29:16 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Google's advancement. Englishmen have already made it possible to ask Jen with your voice.

0:29:22 - Mikah Sargent
I thought there was almost an Australian vibe to it.

0:29:24 - Leo Laporte
She's not an English speaker? Yeah, or maybe.

0:29:26 - Samsung Presenter / VO
And if you're out of tune.

0:29:28 - Leo Laporte
Yeah, maybe you're right Out of tune.

0:29:30 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Through Google Lens, which is used over 12 billion times per month. And with every technological breakthrough we've got an even closer to helping you search any way anywhere, and I'm so excited to share our latest major milestone with you today as we continue in this exciting AI era.

0:29:55 - Mikah Sargent
We both just love voices.

0:29:57 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Our phones are really a window to the world's information and because humans are naturally curious, you probably come across things in your apps all the time that you want to learn more about. But when you're immersed in a moment of discovery, it might be a kiwi, you can feel disruptive to stop what you're doing and switch to another app to learn more.

0:30:19 - Leo Laporte
But I don't think she's a native English speaker.

0:30:21 - Samsung Presenter / VO
So today we're introducing a solution. I'm thrilled to unveil circle to search a new way to search anything on your Android phone using a simple gesture.

0:30:34 - Leo Laporte
Android phone. Android phone not Samsung exclusive.

0:30:37 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Thanks to breakthroughs in Google AI.

0:30:39 - Mikah Sargent
That's nice of Samsung to give them the stage for this, yeah.

0:30:42 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Highlight.

0:30:43 - Leo Laporte
This is just lens right. Or tap whatever you're curious about on your screen to learn more Focus lens?

0:30:51 - Samsung Presenter / VO
yeah, so let's take this example, where I'm interested in what a creator is wearing in their social post, but they didn't tag the brands. Today, if I see something I'm interested in.

0:31:03 - Samsung Presenter / VO
I have to go tag the brands. How could they not tag the brands? Yeah, I know I do I want to Google lens this or circle lens.

0:31:09 - Samsung Presenter / VO
It's going to be inconvenient and take you out of your flow. But now, just long, press the home button to invoke, circle to search, and from there you can select any item, like these sunglasses to quickly uncover similar options and where to buy them. Without leaving where you are, you could also scribble the bag to see what that is. I've been really into tagging back.

0:31:35 - Leo Laporte
You could scribble over it.

0:31:37 - Samsung Presenter / VO
So we'll definitely be checking these out.

0:31:40 - Leo Laporte
Oh yeah.

0:31:41 - Samsung Presenter / VO
It's amazing, right.

0:31:42 - Leo Laporte
Ah, yes, amazing.

0:31:43 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Or if I wanted to know more about the boots. Instead I could just tap on them quickly to look those up too.

0:31:50 - Mikah Sargent
So there's tap, there's circle, there's scribble, and just like that.

0:31:52 - Samsung Presenter / VO
your curiosity is satisfied, and when you're done, you can just swipe away and you're right back where you started.

0:32:00 - Mikah Sargent
I like that.

0:32:00 - Samsung Presenter / VO
it's kind of contextual and moodle Perhaps you're browsing social and come across what looks like a really delicious corn dog that you want to know more about.

0:32:09 - Mikah Sargent
Never the case for me, but OK, the power generative AI.

0:32:12 - Samsung Presenter / VO
you can ask more complex and nuanced questions than all the people All corn dogs are delicious.

0:32:17 - Mikah Sargent
So you can more easily understand what's actually the topics and you come across a delicious looking corn dog. We've all had this experience.

0:32:26 - Samsung Presenter / VO
So I can circle the corn dog.

0:32:28 - Mikah Sargent
Why are corn dogs?

0:32:30 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Why are these so popular? Good question and I quickly learned that these treats are Korean corn dogs. Oh, that's a Korean corn dog and the trending because they feature a unique combination of flavors and textures.

0:32:40 - Mikah Sargent
And also because a bunch of people on TikTok ate them on camera. That's also why they're trending.

0:32:44 - Samsung Presenter / VO
And from there you can get right back to what you were doing. This is all possible, juno, google's deep understanding of information in its many forms, paired with our world-class ranking system to deliver helpful high-quality information and, of course, google has long been committed to keeping your personal data secure, and Circle to Search was built with privacy in mind. It's designed to use only the area you select on your screen to begin your search. Ok, so we've talked a bit about this exciting innovation, but let's actually see the magic in action.

0:33:30 - Leo Laporte
Search Circle and Search. Circle, Circle, Circle and Search.

0:33:37 - Mikah Sargent
They made their own tune for it.

0:33:40 - Samsung Presenter / VO
So it's made my friend Texne to plan for our coming trip. Find what you need in Circle and Search she loves vintage clothes and she wants to know if I know of any perf stores around Camden Market. So I can just long press the home button and select the text in her message. Let's do that again Vintage.

0:34:04 - Leo Laporte
They're really. These are not canned and it's Delay C.

0:34:07 - Samsung Presenter / VO
some options that Strip stores I can go to, Is that?

0:34:10 - Mikah Sargent
amazing. Maybe they intentionally are.

0:34:12 - Samsung Presenter / VO
They encourage almost a little bit of the delay so that we know it's real and not what they're doing, and I think this can.

0:34:18 - Leo Laporte
It's not canned.

0:34:20 - Samsung Presenter / VO
One. It has a great rating, so I think we'll go there Now. My friend also says that there's this chicken restaurant in Convent Garden that, I guess, serves an entire fried chicken. It sounds amazing.

0:34:33 - Leo Laporte
A whole fried chicken, absolutely no clue what she's talking about that would go so well with a crunchy gooey Korean corn dog Yum yum Long press the home button.

0:34:41 - Samsung Presenter / VO
So many carbs and I can serve all the Texne You've heard of chicken and waffles.

0:34:45 - Leo Laporte
And chicken and corn dogs. Chicken and corn dogs.

0:34:47 - Samsung Presenter / VO
How amazing is that.

0:34:49 - Mikah Sargent
Oh, chicken sours, I guess it's this place called Chicken. Sours.

0:34:53 - Leo Laporte
Not going there and I can see all the information about it, including I can go in here and see some photos.

0:35:01 - Samsung Presenter / VO
It looks like some amazing fried chicken, or we should definitely go there.

0:35:05 - Mikah Sargent
Is it a golden doodle Now?

0:35:07 - Samsung Presenter / VO
if you're anything like me, I'm sure you'd love watching videos on your phone. So let's say, I'm browsing YouTube Shorts and I see this kind of interesting hanging chair Browsing YouTube.

0:35:18 - Mikah Sargent
Shorts, not TikTok.

0:35:19 - Samsung Presenter / VO
I'd like to know more, but I wouldn't even know what to say. So again with Soko to Search, I long press the home button, circle it right over the video, I use my finger or the S-Pen, and up pops some results and see a bunch of different options here and if I want to, I can re-circle and here are even more options and I can click on any of these.

0:35:45 - Mikah Sargent
That was live, because it didn't give her the results she wanted the first time, so she didn't do anything that.

0:35:49 - Leo Laporte
I see she had to redo it, yeah.

0:35:52 - Samsung Presenter / VO
With Soko to Search, the power of Google AI is just a press away, no matter where you are on your phone. Only on Android, and it's absolutely. And we're excited to announce that Soko to Search will be available across all three models of the Galaxy S24 series.

0:36:15 - Mikah Sargent
Okay, so it might be model specific or device specific.

0:36:20 - Samsung Presenter / VO
This incredible new capability is the result of deep collaboration with Samsung.

0:36:24 - Leo Laporte
You have to have some horsepower and with room to bring the latest innovations for Google Search. And an NPU probably.

0:36:29 - Samsung Presenter / VO
To Galaxy users around the world. But I'm sure the picture of the things we look forward to building on our extensive partnership with Samsung as we enter this next era of AI powered experiences, and with that I'll hand it back to Drew. Thank you, Kathy, Thank you.

0:36:46 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Kathy To Soko to Search.

0:36:49 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Circle to Search will revolutionize the smartphone search experience, making it easier for you to search without switching apps, even when you can't find the words to describe what you're looking for. We're so excited to be working with our friends at Google to provide Galaxy S24 users with a new way to search. The Galaxy S24 series will empower you to do incredible things in brand new ways, and we know how important it is to safeguard your privacy along the way. So with a Galaxy S24 series, making decisions about your data is in your hands. We're giving you total transparency and full control. Under advanced intelligence settings, you can decide whether you want to allow online processing and full functionality of AI. In addition, the security and privacy dashboard allows you to easily understand which apps recently accessed your location data or camera, and you can remove access with just a tab.

But security goes beyond just our smartphones. Most of us have multiple devices that connect with each other, and we're committed to the security required for that level of connectivity. So we made a logo With Nox Matrix. Samsung Cloud securely syncs and backs up your data and settings across your Galaxy devices using end-to-end encryption. That means only you have access to the data on your devices. It's all part of how we continue to strengthen our security, so you can choose to access safe technology that works for you. As you've seen, there are many ways that Galaxy AI can help enhance your everyday life. It can also go a step further and help unleash our creativity.

0:38:46 - Mikah Sargent
Here we go, another video.

0:38:49 - Leo Laporte
You're watching our live coverage of the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Event. They haven't really said much about the S24, and, as we thought, they've really said a lot about AI and AI and features. In me, they say tops what? The three Galaxy phones. So I guess these are S24, s24 Ultra, but that was very creative. Oh, dr Hallman, change into a VP Somebody else.

0:39:14 - Mikah Sargent
The experience has always been fueled by our commitment to meaningful innovation.

0:39:21 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Last year, Galaxy S23 Ultra empowered users to capture epic, professional-grade content. Today, Galaxy S24 Ultra will maximize your creative freedom with a wide-ranging suite of AI tools powered by an all-new Pro-Bitco energy. Samsung's taken some hits about how much processing they do.

0:39:39 - Leo Laporte
Are you ready to show everyone For the Galaxy S24's camera can do?

0:39:43 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Yes, ahmed, I've seen posts that the S24 is a not-bring item for concerts. That's why, when we went to see the band Tomorrow Bite Together. We brought along the Galaxy S24 Ultra to replicate the fan experience. Now, this is a real thing that a lot of people do.

0:40:02 - Mikah Sargent
I wish they would record a concert. Please Enjoy the show, folks.

0:40:07 - Samsung Presenter / VO
No one you will never look at those videos again, because they're all garbage.

0:40:12 - Leo Laporte
We were able to zoom in to see TXT and the fingers of front row. And no one wants to see your videos. Yeah, and from the camera in the dark concert hall.

0:40:22 - Samsung Presenter / VO
we could clearly capture details, even their facial expressions. Wow, there's like no stabilizer.

0:40:30 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with a quad-tele camera system, including a new 5x optical lens and a 5-pixel sensor, so you can take high-quality videos and photos from afar. They've always had really amazing photos, and pixels are now 1.6 times larger than before allowing them to capture more than one pixel, and they're really amazing, so they're really great for allowing them to capture more light or brighter and clearer output.

The telecamera on the Galaxy S24 Ultra now has a wider OIS correction angle to increase the steadiness of your footage even if you're zooming in from far away, that's why the stabilizer is better. The next-level camera of Galaxy S24 Ultra produces not only epic videos, but epic photos too. Let's take a look.

0:41:21 - Leo Laporte
I guess this really does play to the fact that people experience everything through their smartphone camera. Yes. It's kind of sad, sad but, true.

0:41:32 - Mikah Sargent
Look at that. That's what you see.

0:41:34 - Samsung Presenter / VO
She's always been this popular Aww.

0:41:38 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Truthfully that's what it looks like when you go see the.

0:41:41 - Leo Laporte
Mona.

0:41:41 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Lisa in the loo.

0:41:45 - Mikah Sargent
Unless you're chill and you hang out in the back, and zoom in. I am unbothered by all of you.

0:41:54 - Leo Laporte
I shall zoom past you and I'll be right back. You won't care that you can't get anywhere near the Mona Lisa.

0:42:29 - Mikah Sargent
Increasingly, I find myself wondering the role of photos in our lives, because what is the difference between me having that photo of the Mona Lisa and just looking at someone else's photo of the Mona Lisa? Just buy the freaking postcard and go home.

0:42:45 - Leo Laporte
It's really about look how cool I am and I can't help but love the museum.

0:42:51 - Mikah Sargent
I like it when it was a totem that I could glaze upon, that I could gaze upon to be reminded of that moment Increasingly it is not about that.

0:43:03 - Leo Laporte
That's why I take pictures.

0:43:05 - Samsung Presenter / VO
It's for the memories and super resolution simultaneously from the get-go. So cropped 12 megapixel images still have top-notch quality.

0:43:16 - Leo Laporte
Yeah, this will be very interesting to see. Do some pixel peeping on these final photos and see how much processing equipment I've always kind of preferred the iPhone's less processed. Look Because I'm more natural. A lot of people prefer the the colours and the way that Samsung boosts images pop. Yeah, yeah look at the face. No, that's not what you want. It's almost like Kenny Valley. Make the painting even better.

0:44:04 - Mikah Sargent
Yeah, see, and then it's not. You're not taking a photo, you don't have a photo of the painting. You have a photo of an interpretation of the painting, but I guess that's what every photo practice is.

0:44:14 - Samsung Presenter / VO
If it's of a painting.

0:44:16 - Samsung Presenter / VO
It's too many brush strokes.

0:44:20 - Leo Laporte
Yeah, exactly, smooth it out.

0:44:33 - Mikah Sargent
Mona Lisa has one too, and now she takes a picture of you. That was kind of a fun video, though I have to say yeah.

0:44:44 - Samsung Presenter / VO
I wonder how the photo of Mona Lisa came out. Yeah, show us. You can capture epic photos in low light, he said. I wonder how the photo of Mona Lisa took two now, yeah, he's like look at my own joke.

0:44:57 - Mikah Sargent
Works with the new 5x optical lens to capture vivid, I thought that was a microphone.

0:45:00 - Samsung Presenter / VO
I thought why she's so close to that microphone. It's actually a Korean corn dog. Oh my God.

0:45:06 - Mikah Sargent
The Galaxy S14 series has our best cameras yet, so we made sure that this epic quality carries over to your favourite social apps.

0:45:12 - Samsung Presenter / VO
How's that? What do you mean? Our native camera experiences like Nytography, Super HDR and video stabilization are now available for social NS cameras.

0:45:27 - Mikah Sargent
If you're using other cameras Instagram and Snapchat that's smart to do. Yay, what's that one in?

0:45:35 - Samsung Presenter / VO
the middle, so you can take the same high quality photos and videos in your camera apps.

0:45:40 - Leo Laporte
Oh no, it's a social media app we also partnered with.

0:45:43 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Instagram to upgrade the editing, uploading and the viewing experiences. They've done this before. You can even create fun stories directly from your motion photos.

0:45:58 - Samsung Presenter / VO
We work with Instagram to develop an upgraded end-to-end visual experience, so every photo and video you take or view will be shown in a range of color and background Makes your life look so much better than it is, that dreary day suddenly looks like it pops. In fact, the Galaxy S24 series will be the first ever to have HDR enabled for photos on Instagram.

0:46:23 - Mikah Sargent
Oh, because, yeah, you can only do videos right now on Instagram with the iPhone.

0:46:28 - Samsung Presenter / VO
We believe everyone has the imagination to become a content creator and with the Galaxy S24 series, you will be able to create throw quality content without additional equipment. We love helping you bring your creativity to life. Over the last 10 years, I've led a team of camera and AI experts at Samsung Research, where we developed several generations of AI multi-frame technologies that powered the core of some of our most loved camera features, such as nitography, space zoom, high megapixel processing and expert RAW.

And with the ProVisual engine, we are making it even easier for you to get throw-level photos and videos, even if you just point and shoot. Provisual engine doesn't just help you get the shot, it also simplifies photo editing. When you're viewing photos in your gallery, your Galaxy S24 will automatically suggest editing options like here. Do you see how this picture captured the reflection and glare from the harsh overhead lighting?

0:47:40 - Mikah Sargent
No.

0:47:41 - Samsung Presenter / VO
I do, I do. I do this in front of my camera. I recommend that you fix that. Fix that. The quick press of this button, provisual engine, helps us to remember the reflection and glare as if they were never there. That's cool.

0:47:53 - Mikah Sargent
See, actually this is something that I would love. Basically a little friend that says oh, you should bump the highlights on this or bring down the saturation. I mean almost all.

0:48:04 - Samsung Presenter / VO
They do it automatically, but I want to be taught basically so that I can go oh, this is what I should do. Did you guys see that?

0:48:11 - Mikah Sargent
Yes, Move the photo to bring it more in line, add stuff to the outside.

0:48:16 - Samsung Presenter / VO
You can also move an object or person and generate a perfectly blended background where the subject used to be Wow, we've seen Google do stuff like this, I believe.

0:48:24 - Mikah Sargent
Yeah, well, that's just a lie at that point?

0:48:28 - Leo Laporte
Well, and this is the point, is you no longer be able to?

0:48:31 - Samsung Presenter / VO
trust other spaces Masterfully editing operations for jaw-dropping results. We understand that with new possibilities for technology there can also be concerns.

0:48:40 - Mikah Sargent
Yes, thank you.

0:48:41 - Samsung Presenter / VO
So with every generated image, we'll be adding a watermark to the image and a layer in the metadata.

0:48:47 - Mikah Sargent
Well then, I guess I'll never do a lie of a photo. Interesting or just crop out the.

0:48:55 - Samsung Presenter / VO
And now you can watch a video in slow motion, even if you didn't record it that way, tara Take it away In slow-mo.

0:49:04 - Samsung Presenter / VO
You're always kind of Slowing down an existing video requires you to create each missing part frame by frame, but now, with the Pro Visual Engine, you can turn high resolution videos into slow motion with a simple long press. It will analyze each frame of the video.

0:49:23 - Leo Laporte
It's still interpolating frames.

0:49:25 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Yes, and add AI-generated images in between frames. Is that better? Allow you to watch your videos in slow motion.

0:49:33 - Mikah Sargent
That's not really his arm.

0:49:35 - Samsung Presenter / VO
It's impressive right.

0:49:36 - Leo Laporte
Yeah, again, all of these you have to see, that's Galaxy.

0:49:41 - Mikah Sargent
AI at work If it puts a foot on my hand, then that's not good here to show you even more about what this trailblazing camera can do.

0:49:49 - Leo Laporte
Look, five fingers, even by just very special guests.

0:49:51 - Mikah Sargent
It's incredible, it can actually do that.

0:49:53 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Samsung is incredibly proud to be the maker of his official vlog camera. Here comes Moe. Everyone welcome the one and only.

0:50:01 - Mikah Sargent
We call it A-Only these days. What's?

0:50:03 - Samsung Presenter / VO

0:50:27 - Mikah Sargent

0:50:32 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Finally he's looking at the camera Whoa, what it's like we didn't even change. Wow, oh my gosh. Whoa, it's picking up the tiny bar you can zoom in 10x.

0:50:42 - Mikah Sargent
Oh, is that chocolate?

0:50:44 - Samsung Presenter / VO
And then 10x zoom. On 10x I'm going to get a map. I mean you can 100x zoom. It's very impressive, all right let's look at the.

0:50:52 - Leo Laporte0
Are they all awkward like this? Look at that quality, yeah 50 feet in there.

0:50:56 - Leo Laporte
Yeah, it's the style All right, let's keep going higher.

0:50:59 - Samsung Presenter / VO
The next feature I want to show you is circle to search with Google. So this is one of my YouTube shorts.

0:51:04 - Leo Laporte
It's authentic.

0:51:05 - Mikah Sargent
I see we're going to circle Feastables it feels and it pulls it up on Google without you having to look.

0:51:08 - Leo Laporte
It's such a plug for his crappy food. Yeah, isn't that?

0:51:11 - Samsung Presenter / VO
crazy. That's awesome. Basically, you can circle anything on your phone and it will automatically search it. Take me up. Why don't we keep going up For this next feature? I need to reveal something. Another chocolate bar. Who would have guessed? Oh, I know it Quick, share me. I'm taking the picture. Nolan, quick share the photo to me. I just simped it. Oh wow, that was fast the question is and now that he's quick, shared me the photo I want to show you guys. Photo assist.

0:51:41 - Leo Laporte
How long before?

0:51:42 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Mr Beast is I'm going to?

0:51:43 - Leo Laporte
take my 500 million and retire, hit the 3.

0:51:46 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Hit generate? I guess not he's really digging his life. And just like that I am floating on a giant chocolate bar, the other cranes gone. Thank you, Samsung, for letting us play with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. I greatly appreciate it.

0:51:57 - Leo Laporte
That was my thought also.

0:51:59 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Magic. I don't understand how you pulled it off. It's been a whole day up there. You can go try it for yourself.

0:52:03 - Mikah Sargent
Is his harness on underneath his hoodie.

0:52:05 - Samsung Presenter / VO
How do we get down from here?

0:52:08 - Leo Laporte
It's funny that one of them had a harness. Yeah, what a photo from Mr Beast Holy cow.

0:52:15 - Mikah Sargent
Or is it a plug for Samsung?

0:52:17 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Don't bring us a quick share that photo to me too when you get a chance. Okay With quick share transferring full resolution Original files is easy, whether sharing directly to other Galaxy devices or effortlessly sharing with friends on a different platform Be a link or QR code but we wanted to make it even more convenient, so we are excited to partner with Google to make quick share the single share solution across all Android devices. What. So now Android devices will be able to file share across more devices, moving beyond Galaxy phones.

0:53:01 - Mikah Sargent
Yeah, Windows as well To include other Android devices and even Windows PCs.

0:53:08 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Isn't that epic?

0:53:09 - Leo Laporte
Epic, epic, epic.

0:53:13 - Samsung Presenter / VO
And now to tell us about the incredible performance of the Galaxy S24 series. Please welcome DT.

0:53:21 - Mikah Sargent
Who's DT? Dt David Thompson, product specialist Good old DT. Still no AO Lee on the stage. I mean Mayo, mayo, mayo, oh, mayo, oh Mayo.

0:53:35 - Samsung Presenter / VO
For communication, for productivity and creativity. Every experience you've seen today is made possible because it's powered by an advanced suite of technologies, and it all starts with our latest AP, the Qualcomm, designed to deliver exceptional performance and lightning fast processing speeds. Our state of the art MPU is the fastest in the Galaxy series. It's what allows AI features like real time translation and generative editing to run smoothly and efficiently. We've also improved the CPU and GPU significantly, which enables seamless multitasking and video editing.

It's interesting because this is not and, of course, cpus, mpus and GPUs of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, you'll experience stronger performance for faster and smoother gameplay. Oh gaming the performance on our latest ray tracing module is 53% faster, making the gaming experience more immersive and lifelike A Snapdragon SoC, as far as I know. We're working with gaming studios, publishers and game engine companies to bring you many more experiences enhanced by ray tracing. Were those videos different? Top notch performance is one thing I know you've changed my name. Maintaining that performance is another thing. Pay attention.

There's something wrong with me To ensure your devices run efficiently, no matter how you use them. We want to make sure to keep them cool. The Galaxy S24 series features a redesigned structure with a pop-up Tim, a liquid type Tim, and wider vapor chamber around the AP to disperse who is Tim? Efficially and in two directions? That's my question. Tim who? This allows heat to be spread and carried widely across the surface preventing sudden temperature spikes. So, even if you've been more immersed in your game, your Galaxy S24 series will maintain a powerful performance.

0:55:46 - Leo Laporte
It won't burn your hands anymore.

0:55:47 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Tim will keep your hands safe and performance is further optimized by Galaxy AI, so you can gain for longer the Galaxy. S24 series excels in effective power management through its. Ap and enhanced MPU performance. Couple that with a long-lasting battery, and now you'll be able to enjoy even more gameplay. Oh, that's awesome.

0:56:10 - Leo Laporte
Plus, now gaming outdoors is even better. Titanium.

0:56:14 - Samsung Presenter / VO
The entire Galaxy S24 series features screens with a peak brightness of 2,600 nits. But why? These intelligent displays detect the lighting of your environment and adapt automatically to help you see your screen more clearly, with three levels of brightness.

0:56:32 - Leo Laporte
I think that is brighter than the iPhone by 600 nits.

0:56:35 - Samsung Presenter / VO
This is the best smartphone for gamers, and who to better to chat with us about its impressive gameplay than Pokemon?

0:56:44 - Mikah Sargent
That's Pokemon, oh Pokemon.

0:56:47 - Samsung Presenter / VO
I could not believe. I heard Unpacked.

0:56:50 - Samsung Presenter / VO
I'm so used to talking to people from behind my camera.

0:56:52 - Mikah Sargent
He mispronounced her name.

0:56:52 - Samsung Presenter / VO
It is crazy to see this many people in person, as you may know it's really important to me to have the best gaming experience, one of the main reasons I'm a PC gamer Raytracing it makes the graphics in each scene feel so lifelike, and Galaxy S24 brings that technology to mobile. I've been gaming for years and I've never seen such immersive gameplay. Trust me, I've tried basically every device there is out there I have joysticks older than her and in Galaxy.

S24,. Raytracing is truly so cool. On top of that, it's great outdoors. I travel pretty often and I was surprised at how clear the visuals were when using it and gaming on the go. It recognizes the brightness in your surroundings and adjusts the screen automatically. Pretty nice, right. I'm going to get back to it. Thank you so much for having me everyone.

0:57:46 - Leo Laporte
Thank you, pokemon, did you take it from here.

0:57:51 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Now you say it correctly I love gaming outdoors myself and the innovative design behind the Galaxy S24 series device.

0:58:00 - Leo Laporte
Number one female streamer on Twitch Makes it perfect for that, here to tell us more.

0:58:04 - Samsung Presenter / VO
please welcome back, drew.

0:58:13 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Wow.

0:58:15 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Thanks, DT. Bama Dippen Our smartphones have always been known for their bold aesthetics and durable designs, and Galaxy S24 Ultra is our most durable smartphone yet.

0:58:27 - Leo Laporte
If it's titanium.

0:58:29 - Mikah Sargent
It's titanium, oh my god.

0:58:34 - Leo Laporte
The world's titanium supplies must be dwindling For the first time ever.

0:58:36 - Samsung Presenter / VO
we're harnessing the power of titanium to give Galaxy S24 Ultra a super premium feel you know.

0:58:42 - Leo Laporte
Apple's been pushing titanium now for six months.

0:58:45 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Apple and Galaxy's toughest metal, yet with higher corrosion resistance yield strength and hardness. We also made the device thinner to fit better in the contours of your hand. Replace the front edge display with a flatter one for riding with the S24 Ultra. Just like Apple, the display has evenly designed bezels. It's more vivid and more visible, and it's more durable. Furthermore, please welcome John Bain from Corning.

0:59:15 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Nice.

0:59:16 - Mikah Sargent
Thanks, drew. It's great to be here to support the launch of Samsung's Galaxy S24 Ultra. Samsung and Corning have worked together closely for more than 50 years. Our collaboration continues to push the boundaries of what's possible, and today we're taking that to a whole new level. I'm thrilled to introduce a brand new material that we developed for the Galaxy S24 Ultra Corning Gorilla Armor, not even glass.

0:59:45 - Samsung Presenter / VO
With the state-of-the-art material.

0:59:46 - Mikah Sargent
We've advanced the performance of Gorilla Glass in three ways.

0:59:50 - Leo Laporte
First, gorilla Armor is a tough-ish glass.

0:59:51 - Samsung Presenter / VO
I think it probably bugs Corning that Apple will never admit they're using Gorilla.

0:59:56 - Leo Laporte
Glass. So they thought well, samsung will let us use their brand.

1:00:01 - Mikah Sargent
I wonder at what point they have to stop calling it glass. You know what means to.

1:00:07 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Corning had invented Gorilla Glass and was about to close the plant when Apple came along and said we want to buy all the Gorilla Glass you can make.

1:00:16 - Mikah Sargent
They really saved this product and it's a great thing.

1:00:35 - Samsung Presenter / VO
I think, almost everybody who buys Android phones uses screen protectors.

1:00:40 - Leo Laporte
I don't know if that's true on the Apple side. That's a good question People think I'm crazy that I'm putting screen protectors.

1:00:50 - Mikah Sargent
I don't like screen protectors.

1:00:51 - Leo Laporte
I don't like them either, and this is what they're saying is well, you don't need one, you don't need it.

1:00:59 - Mikah Sargent
It's pre-armored.

1:01:02 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Yeah, you don't want to put armor on armor.

1:01:03 - Mikah Sargent
That's how you do it. That would be crazy. I mean, yeah, how are you going to fight in the war if you're wearing armor on armor? Fairly, walk with all that armor, just sitting still.

1:01:16 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Thanks, john. Galaxy S24 Ultra is iconic, and Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus bring a one-mass design.

1:01:27 - Mikah Sargent
Wait, is that my phone?

1:01:27 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Creating a cohesive look that seamlessly combines the display with a durable, armor aluminum frame. This series is a testament to resilience, sophistication and Samsung's cutting-edge innovation, and it contributes to our vision of a sustainable future.

1:01:56 - Mikah Sargent
So the ultra is the square side of the.

1:01:58 - Samsung Presenter / VO
I am small but I'm a warrior.

1:02:03 - Leo Laporte
But I'm mighty. Yeah, the ultra has the square side.

1:02:40 - Samsung Presenter / VO
I finally let a breakthrough. I made a plant pot from 100% waste plastic.

1:02:45 - Leo Laporte0
Whatever you said, the challenge now is to transform discarded fishing nets into a high-performance material for our Samsung.

1:02:52 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Galaxy device Discarded cushion mints. They're more responsible for preserving the environment for generations to come.

1:02:58 - Samsung Presenter / VO
I don't want to phone me about discarded cushion mints.

1:03:01 - Leo Laporte
This requires us to make Galaxy innovations that do more for people and the planet we can bring in mother nature.

1:03:06 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Yeah, I believe we cannot save the planet alone.

1:03:09 - Samsung Presenter / VO
We don't have to do things perfectly Small things will have a big impact.

1:03:14 - Leo Laporte
You know what would be good Keep your old phone as long as possible.

1:03:22 - Mikah Sargent
And now you can, because they increase the support. Seven years.

1:03:27 - Leo Laporte
yeah, that's probably doing more for sustainability than anything.

1:03:32 - Samsung Presenter / VO
We believe that the next frontier of innovation can and should do more for you and for the planet. Two years ago, we introduced our first ever smartphone.

1:03:44 - Leo Laporte
That a product of such class is Just tuning in for Windows Weekly.

1:03:47 - Samsung Presenter / VO
we'll get to it as soon as this is over, we've got it.

Fishing nets Since then we have used a wider variety of recycled materials in Galaxy devices, like aluminium and glass, in addition to recycled plastics, and the Galaxy S24 series incorporates recycled steel, pre-consumer recycled TPU, which is a rubber like material, recycled cobalt and rare earth elements. For the first time in a Galaxy device, galaxy S24 Ultra's battery features a minimum of 50% recycled cobalt, while all the magnets in the speaker are made from 100% recycled rare earth elements. These materials have been recovered from lithium-ion batteries or magnets that were discarded during manufacturing or from products that reach the end of their lives. Cobalt and rare earth elements are finite natural resources, so we've used recycled variations in the Galaxy S24 series and we expect that step-by-step changes in selecting more circular materials to improve environmental.

1:05:11 - Leo Laporte
If you buy this 24, they include a screen protector. Pre-order now, oh wow, Additionally the Galaxy S24 series made from 100% recycled paper material and, of course, to reduce the impact on our planet.

1:05:31 - Samsung Presenter / VO
We will continue to innovate for people to be able to use these devices for longer. All of these efforts are key in helping us achieve a commitment to create a more sustainable future, and we're making great progress to reach our mobile businesses sustainability goals by the end of 2025. In fact, by incorporating at least one recycled material in all new mobile products, spanning Galaxy, smartphones, tablets, pcs and wearables, we achieve the first of these goals by the end of 2022. So we're delighted to share that we've already set a new goal to take things to the next level. We plan to incorporate at least one recycled material in every module of every one of our mobile products by 2030.

1:06:35 - Leo Laporte
That's a tempered applause, if I ever heard it.

1:06:37 - Samsung Presenter / VO
We will continue to review our achievements identify more opportunities to accelerate action and deliver even more positive change for the environment and for communities across the globe by continuing to innovate and collaborate openly with like-minded partners. 1:12:09 - Leo Laporte
Yeah, that's something that currently. None of the Apple devices. They don't know how to detect. The Google Nest Hub supposedly does.

Samsung Health's cutting-edge innovations to a brand new form factor. Oh, we've created a powerful and accessible health and wellness device here to change the shape of future health there have been many rings.

1:15:55 - Leo Laporte
There was Motive Aura Ring. I've used the Aura Ring. It's hard to be accurate in one of these devices.

1:16:04 - Mikah Sargent
Did they call it a galaxy ring A?

1:16:06 - Leo Laporte
galaxy ring. Okay, good, they could have called it the spiral arm, but I think rings. Whoa, oh whoa. Oh please, this is so. Ring, ring, ring, a ding ding baby. Surprise, it's a necklace. Technology is empowering us to stay connected.

1:16:45 - Samsung Presenter / VO
It's a choker we show creativity and build healthier habits, all in more meaningful ways. This is just the beginning, and we can't wait for you to try this out.

1:16:56 - Leo Laporte
None of these people are wearing the ring, by the way.

1:16:58 - Samsung Presenter / VO
Thank you so much for being a part of Unpacked.

1:17:02 - Leo Laporte
This later this year. The ring is not, so is that?

1:17:06 - Mikah Sargent
it Apparently. That was all you got, that's it.

1:17:10 - Samsung Presenter / VO
That's all you got. That's the one more.

1:17:11 - Mikah Sargent
Thing.

1:17:12 - Leo Laporte
Remember, Leo, the next big thing is you. The next big thing is you.

1:17:16 - Mikah Sargent
No, it's you and be here now. Oh, it's you what the next big thing is.

1:17:21 - Leo Laporte
Oh, welcome to the castle. Samsung needs you Into a mostly empty Did we ever get Leo. No, I thought Leo was supposed to be there. Maybe it was Mr Beast and I just misunderstood. And Pokey Main Pokey.

1:17:39 - Mikah Sargent
Main Maybe they're celebrities. Mr Mr Main, mr Main Beast.

1:17:45 - Leo Laporte
Beast Main, pokey Main. You know nothing, really. The thing is, it's tough for Samsung because there's really, you know, everything was already known about the Samsung Galaxy S24. We were interested and one of the reasons we're doing this stream is because we want to know about the AI features and those look pretty good.

1:18:03 - Mikah Sargent
They did. There were a few surprises, really interesting. Yeah, we liked that you could place a call and have that live translated as you're taking place.

1:18:10 - Leo Laporte
Simultaneously translation.

1:18:12 - Mikah Sargent
And then no stuff. The AI summary is there. That is, I think, the first taste of what generative AI can do when it's at the operating system level. Right, I want I actually do want some of that. I want to be able to have something that's at the very base level. I don't have to go and type this in or copy and paste it into some window somewhere to get the answers that I'm looking for. I thought that was rather compelling.

1:18:37 - Leo Laporte
I think you're going to see this everywhere. Certainly, microsoft's going to put it into Windows. Nobody's done exactly that yet, but that's going to happen. I'm sure Apple will have simultaneous translation of their iPhone. I suspect Google is probably partnering with Samsung on all of this because it is using the Google on-device Gemini AI. Gemini is their new model for Bard, and the fact that they were very clear that it's using the Google Gemini LLM is probably a pretty good indicator that Google will have this as well on the Pixel phones and probably most Android devices.

So what you're really seeing here, I think, is exactly as you say, kind of foreshadowing what every smartphone will be doing Probably this year. I would guess I like to circle to search. That was a nice feature. It's basically Google Lens, but you, instead of just taking a picture and having Lens analyze that, you could say no, no here, look here, or what is this, and I think that's a nice feature, especially since you've got the S Pen built into the S24. So you know, nothing wildly surprising, but some very nice uses of AI.

1:19:49 - Mikah Sargent
I think, yeah, I absolutely think that what they were showing off with AI was interesting and really highlights again what we can do whenever it is more baked into the device. But ultimately, yeah, we, as you said, with a lot of this stuff we knew about before, even at the very end when they did the one more thing with the ring, we only got a taste of it. I'm sure we'll hear lots more about it going forward, but I will say you really hit the nail on the head at the very beginning when you talked about the lack of warmth that was at this during this announcement.

It's great dystopia, yeah, sort of cold and distant, which is just a different feeling than I would expect, but a few funny videos that actually made me laugh at times, which is unlike what we had with Apple, wow.

1:20:39 - Leo Laporte
All right. Well, that wraps up this Samsung Galaxy Unpacked announcement for January 2024. They moved it up a little earlier than it traditionally is Not sure what they're planning because of that, but maybe they wanted to get it out before the Vision Pro. Maybe they wanted to get it out before Google made any announcements at Google IO. I'm wondering what the future is at this point for the Pixel platform with Google, especially since they're so explicitly partnering with Samsung. Thank you, Mr Micah Sargent, for joining us today and thank you for the report. I appreciate it and we will see you next time. There's another big announcement as part of our twit news specials. Thanks for watching. Bye-bye.

Hey, I'm Rod Pyle, editor-in-chief of Ad Astra Magazine, and each week I joined with my co-host to bring you, This Week in Space, the latest and greatest news from the final frontier. We talked to NASA, chief space scientists, engineers, educators and artists and sometimes we just shoot the breeze over what's hot and what's not in space books and TV. And we do it all for you, our fellow true believers. So, whether you're an armchair adventurer or waiting for your turn to grab a slot in Elon's Mars rocket, join us on this week in space and be part of the greatest adventure of all time.
