Alex Lindsay's pick this week is Wirecast for YouTube's free live streaming. YouTube now allows users with more than 100 subscribers to stream in 1080p live for free, and Wirecast adds more functionality to it. Wirecast for YouTube is a free tool that supports up to three cameras for basic switching, transitions, picture in picture, and even support for Blackmagic capture cards.
Wirecast for YouTube can be downloaded and installed right within YouTube's live event settings. Just choose "Wirecast for YouTube" as the encoder, and instructions will appear along with a download link.
This is a really easy way for people to get started with live streaming. Wirecast for YouTube takes care of all the encoding settings and more automatically. For more capabilities and control, users can pay to upgrade to the Studio version for $199, or the Pro version for $549.
