Social Tip: Starting Tweets with a Username

Twitter

This week's tip on The Social Hour episode 149 addresses a very common mistake people make on Twitter: starting a tweet with a username. When you start a tweet with the @ symbol, it will only be seen by people who follow both you and the person you're mentioning.

Gary Vaynerchuk has done a whole presentation on this epidemic, claiming that it's the "number one mistake everybody makes on Twitter." He shows how to slightly modify the wording of your tweet so that you still can use an @ mention, and make it visible to all of your followers.

Gary Vaynerchuk's presentation can be found on SlideShare.net. To hear Amber MacArthur and Sarah Lane's discussion on this, check out The Social Hour episode 149.
