(NOTE: This report has been updated to include a denial from Amazon.) Amazon.com is planning a free, ad-supported TV service, according to an exclusive in The Wall Street Journal.
The service could launch "in the coming months," according to the article and offer music videos as well as television shows, including original Amazon programming.
The Journal speculated that the programming could enable Amazon to harvest data about viewers' preferences, which would enabled more targeted advertising.
UPDATE: In an email to the press, Amazon has denied that it's planning a free, ad-supported TV service, saying that "We’re often experimenting with new things, but we have no plans to offer a free streaming-media service."
